Company History Standard Distributing is a
complete convenience store supplier that has the legacy of a business that
has been family owned and operated since 1914. What E. A. Naifeh and his son
Sam began as a grocery and dry goods store in Glenpool, OK; evolved into a
distributor by delivering various products to area oil field support
companies in horse-drawn wagons. As oil exploration moved, the company
followed to Kiefer in 1917, and to Sapulpa in 1921.
Because the distribution side of the business grew, Naifeh Distributing was born in 1946 as a full-line distribution company headed by Sam Naifeh, Sr. who was joined by his wife Mae and eldest son, Sam, Jr. They primarily serviced Mom and Pop stores with four truck drivers (the drivers served as sales representatives), two part-time and seven full-time employees.
They
out-grew the original grocery store location and moved to a warehouse twice
its size in 1950. The name was
changed to Standard Tobacco. Another
son, Jerry Naifeh, joined the business after graduating from the University
of Tulsa and serving two years in the military. After the death of his father
and brother, Jerry assumed the roll of president of the company in 1971. Over
the years Standard has grown from serving a four county area and 200
customers; to serving all of Northeastern Oklahoma and part of Southwestern
Missouri, with over 1,000 customers. Growth of the business required
construction of their own 10,000 square foot warehouse in 1979 as the
customer base changed from large independent grocery stores and supermarkets
to chain convenience stores and supermarkets, restaurants, service stations,
schools, etc. The product line also
diversified to include more than just candy and tobacco products. Beverages,
health and beauty aids, groceries, frozen foods and deli products, paper and
janitorial supplies and many others are now staples of the business. Growing business and additional
products forced a 2,400 square foot warehouse addition in 1981, and expansion
to 25,000 square feet six years later. Meanwhile, the staff grew to 35
employees with a fleet of ten delivery trucks. The name change to Standard
Distributing in 1992 reflects this growth and diversity of products.
Jerry’s son Jimmy and nephew
Sam III represent the fourth generation of the Naifeh family to become part of
the management team. Jimmy now serves as president and Sam III is Operations
Manager. The first quarter of 2000 saw the completion of a major warehouse
modernization program under their guidance. We look forward to handling your business supply needs.
